Proofreader/Copyeditor

We're CooL.com, home of the coolest customized content, e-commerce and discussion groups on the Internet. If you're looking for the opportunity to build the premier site for the next generation of Internet users, this is your chance!

We need a detail-oriented proofreader who can spot typographical and contextual errors from a mile away! The selected individual will work closely with our content team to ensure we produce top-quality content for our cool website. You may also assist in writing articles and maintaining traffic flow. Requires 3-5 years proofreading or copy editing experience. This position is part-time (20-30 hrs/wk) with potential for becoming full-time.

Copyeditor

The Copy Editor position is a combination of the following: edits articles for spelling, grammar, house style, tone, logic, formatting, and consistency, working on a tight schedule; builds and maintains workflow systems that allow for optional use of text, graphics, art, and photos online; manages final fact-checking and copyediting, and sets editorial style for the site.

  • Reviews final copyedit on all content for spelling, grammar, house style, tone, logic, formatting and consistency; working within tight deadlines.
  • Enters corrections, proofreads final text, helps coordinate display copy as needed.
  • Writes headlines, decks, captions, and miscellaneous display copy as needed.
  • Oversees Web page posting.
  • Responsible for the smooth flow of copy to the site to ensure that the presentation of online copy always adheres to the highest levels of quality.
  • Ensures that all content is properly coded and marked for optimal Web display.

Requirements: 2 to 3 years of publishing experience (preferably online). Must be familiar with content management technology, editorial design and display, and HTML/XML. Must have strong copyediting and headline writing skills, experience creating style guides, and executing of tight deadlines. Must be familiar with AP style and with Internet companies and terminology. Experience in business or financial publishing preferred.

Online Editor

The content for our Telecommunication and our Call Center Websites must reflect our dedication to provide the businesses we serve with a product that is of high quality and adds value to their transactions and market reach. Our Hive4Telecom and our Hive4CRM are in need of Online Editors who will be proactive and responsible in creating, developing and expanding content for this particular industry that will have a reputation to be up-to-date, informative and appealing. The Online Editor will:

  • Work in collaboration with our existing offline editors in a team effort to best leverage existing Advanstar resources
  • Identify synergies in content development, production and management of this Hive to achieve the overall business goals again in a combined effort with the current Advanstar offline editorial staff
  • Parse and select most appropriate material from a variety of resource formats such as content streams, news feeds, white papers, online products, business customer copy and content made available from third party arrangements
  • Assign and edit features and columns
  • Be responsible for all elements of content presentation including overall presentation with the inclusion of graphics, charts and headlines

REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years in trade journalism or corporate writer with a focus on the B2B marketplace
  • Subject matter expertise in the Telecommunications, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Call Center or e-Learning markets
  • Experience in online content management and an understanding of how to communicate effectively in a digital environment
  • Proven ability to analyze, organize and integrate large amount of complex, disparate information for a presentation that is user-friendly and whose logic is intuitive
  • BA/BS in Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, English, or equivalent
  • Solid copy editing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of usability issues
  • Strong ability to edit for format and style
  • Detail oriented

Must have strong editorial and journalism background. Minimum 4 years of experience. Must have managed a team of writers/editors before. Must have good organizational and communication skills, passion for music, good editorial eye. This person will have the final say on the content that goes onto this client's website. Examples of content would be artist interviews, features, surveys, etc. They will have a team of writers working under them. This is a contract to perm position paying in the $65k range. Online Editor, Developer Portal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Developer Portal Associate Editor will recruit and manage authors, assign and edit columns, articles and other content and occasionally write features and articles for assigned site section/technology topics in accordance with the overall editorial planning for the site.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Plan, commission, write and edit content for assigned section of the Developer Portal.
  • Work with staff and external contributors to generate stories.
  • Develop content ideas, leads and sources for articles and features in
    assigned site section.
  • Generate assignments as required for staff/freelancers (including suggested
    sources, story angles).
  • Build contacts and maintain effective relationship with key industry and

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • A minimum of three years of editing experience in journalism or publishing environment
  • Solid writing skills (demonstrated through samples)
  • Experience in technology or developer areas; online experience strongly
    preferred
  • BA/BS in Journalism, English, Communications or equivalent.

RELEVANT SKILLS AND ATTITUDES INCLUDE:

  • Strong writing, editing and interpersonal skills
